Programme & Enhancement Projects

Synergy Rail provided a complete suite of Interoperability and CSM compliance services to the Northern Programmes Infrastructure Projects which ensured that all requirements for demonstrating compliance with the Interoperability Requirements and Common safety Method standards were met to obtain authorisation from the ORR and/or endorsement from the route SRP to place the new infrastructure into service.
The Scope of the Services had two distinct parts:

  • To provide Functional Leadership for System Safety throughout the NR Infrastructure Projects Northern Programmes portfolio, with an oversight and support role for the NWEP programmes; 
  • The provision of direct System Safety services to the IPNP Enhancements portfolio which included a number of main and minor infrastructure projects

Activities & Deliverables

Synergy Rail acted as Network Rail’s representative to provide a Client Engineering function representing Network Rail. The support provided by Synergy Rail included:

  • System Definition documents that defined the boundaries of the risk evaluation and assessment process
  • Developed and managed Hazard records for each of the main projects
  • Prepared all Safety Cases and Safety Arguments for all of the projects as well as for the NWEP4 and NWEP5 projects, and for 
  • Produced the Declarations of Control of Risk and Declarations of Verification and submission of requests for endorsement or authorisation to the Route SRP or the ORR
  • Liased with the NoBo and AsBo to ensure supportive Safety Assessment reports and conformity assessment reports.
