System Development

Synergy Rail was contracted in 2020 by the NR ETCS Systems Authority (now part of NR Technical Authority) to provide client engineering and assurance services in the development of the RBLS system. The Synergy Rail team was selected for this task due to its specialist technical knowledge of ETCS on the W&W System Safety Framework, as well as its experience in signalling systems development and assurance.

Activities & Deliverables

Synergy Rail acted as Network Rail’s representative to provide a Client Engineering function representing Network Rail. The support provided by Synergy Rail included:

  • Client engineering functional management
  • System engineering (PRAMS, HF, EMC, Environmental)
  • Safety Assurance to CSM, RIR and CENELEC for the entire system
  • Safety and Product Requirements for both trackside and onboard processors
  • System Architecture development
  • Functional and non-functional system and product requirements development
  • Preparation of the System Definition, Safety Plan and Project Assurance Plan
  • Management of the External Assessors (AsBo, NoBo and ISA) to ensure compliance to CSM, CCS TSI and CENELEC regulations and standards
